Education
The Albanese Labor Government believes that education opens the doors of opportunity, and we want every Australian to have access to a quality education at all stages of life.
A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will deliver:
- $5 billion towards building a new universal early childhood education and care system.
- New 3 Day Guarantee to ensure families are eligible for at least 3 days a week of subsidised early childhood education and care.
- Funding a wage increase for the early childhood education and care workforce.
- $1 billion to establish the Building Early Education Fund to increase the supply of early childhood education and care.
- Full and fair funding for all Australian public schools.
- Free TAFE.
- Reforms to universities, including an additional $2.5 billion to support more students from under-represented backgrounds.
- 20% cut to student debt for every Australian with a student debt - a combined $19 billion in student loan debt for 3 million Australians.
- A fairer student loan repayment system.
- Prac Payment for nursing, teaching, midwifery and social work students.
Since we were elected in 2022, the Albanese Labor Government has:
- Made indexation arrangements fairer, limiting future indexation and retrospectively reducing the indexation applied in 2023 and 2024, which has already decreased student loan debt by $3 billion.
- Delivered 600,000 Free TAFE enrolments in courses linked to key priority areas across the economy.
- Established the National Student Ombudsman to address gender-based violence on campus.
- Brought back teaching scholarships worth up to $40,000.
- Invested in capital works projects for schools through the Schools Upgrade Fund.
- Improved access to universities in the outer suburbs and regions by doubling the number of university study hubs across the country.
- Supported Community Language Schools to expand the delivery of language education to more school-aged children, assisting more than 90,000 students learning 84 different languages at not-for-profit Community Language Schools across Australia.
